Lenca Art From Honduras
![]() The Church in La Campa |
Beautiful and vibrant, these Earth-friendly Lenca Art pieces combine ancient indigenous traditions with contemporary appeal. This "green" pottery is made without chemicals or harmful processes, in eco-friendly cooperatives run by Moms in the hills of Honduras. These inexpensive pieces make thoughtful, organic, Earth-friendly gifts.
They are all handcrafted individually, using only clay, earth, Pine Smoke, and the artist's imagination. Each has been carefully selected for its workmanship, beauty, and cultural significance as a unique work of art.
One of the main indigenous groups in Honduras, descendants of the Lenca Indians, preserve their heritage by making this burnished pottery using techniques passed down through generations of women. Since pre-Columbian times, women have been handing down these crafting methods and artistry, resulting in a truly unique product (each piece is hand-formed using clay). Each piece takes 22 days to cure and is "reduction fired", using a low-temperature curing process that utilizes pine smoke to give the pottery its distinctive dark hue. Finally, each piece is polished with a stone to produce a subtle shine.

Because our inventory changes with every shipment, and because each piece is truly unique (our recent shipment of over 50 unique pieces contained a few duplicates, but no two pieces were exactly alike), please feel free to check back in a few months if you don't see exactly what you like.
